Oh what a feelin’, what a rush!

Oh what a feelin’, what a rush!

In one way February seems like so long ago, however in the world of KEEWATIN it was only a few days. A lot has happened since the Scottish lady and I had our trip to South Africa. Saw lots of great things and The trip turned out to be a mixed blessing as only a [...]

Working through the winter..

Working through the winter..

The winter here as everywhere else has been very cold and snowy. That, I thought whIle on my cruise to South Africa, would certainly put a stop to the dock work at the Park in Port McNicoll where KEEWATIN is berthed. To celebrate the 150th year of the Confederation of Canada, the Federal Development Canada [...]

Oh What A Feeling!

Oh What A Feeling!

January was adventure month for the Scottish lady and me as we took a long cruise on the Queen Mary 2 from Southampton to Cape Town South Africa. The Queen was as elegant as ever and we bagged rooms on the 12th floor with a balcony that allowed us to look into the bridge as [...]

A Great Start for 2017..Happy New Year.

A Great Start for 2017..Happy New Year.

The Scottish lady and I have just spent a great week end in Saugatuck Douglas over New Years. KEEWATIN spent 45 years there. Saugatuck is a great town and we have loved visiting most years since `1995 when we discovered Keewatin had not been scrapped. Never thinking we would actually be in a position to [...]

KEEWATIN’s Big Move had Great Results..

KEEWATIN’s Big Move had Great Results..

It began like the opening scene from high noon! Bleak sky, cold weather and a desolate looking stretch of newly restored dock. A slight breeze shuffled the sand like you would put sugar on cornflakes. The sun only glimpsing through the curtain of cloud. This would turn out to be a defining day on the [...]

The steel facing is in place and locked, the rocks and stones are placed in front and the tie-backs are constructed and being buried. Earth is being moved in to replace the sand and gravel previously there. [...]

“CONFEDERATION GATEWAY TO THE WEST” DOCKS WELL ON ITS WAY

“CONFEDERATION GATEWAY TO THE WEST” DOCKS WELL ON ITS WAY

Progress has been great so far. The weather has cooperated and the contractor is really moving along. Once all the concrete foundations were removed the excavators dug out behind the walls. In front of the old dock a new face of steel sheets that lock together are inserted into the water. Depth here is about [...]

A week into the project..

A week into the project..

Well friends, here we are a week into our project of rebuilding the docks. The time has been spent dropping the steel plates into a mounted steel form then pounding them into the lake bottom until they meet rock. Small problem with the crane in that the hydraulic system went off line Friday, but we [...]

The Prodigal Blogger returns

The Prodigal Blogger returns

After my valiant effort in September to reinstate my blogging efforts I failed to even get another story out until now. After yesterday, October 22nd the pressure seems to be coming off as we move into the winter season. However this season is different as usually we lock up Keewatin and other than security checks [...]

The Captain and the Scottish lady go to sea!

The Captain and the Scottish lady go to sea!

Well dear readers, I do owe you all an apology. I fell off the Blog wagon shortly after our season opened and never got back on. It has been a great year so far with good crowds, lots of cruise ships and bus tours. We have also started planning for the rebuild of the dock [...]
